2008-09 CRS Work-Study Opportunities

The Center for Rural Studies is a great place for a Work-Study job!  We have 12 exiting positions left.  How will a work study job at CRS benefit you?? While working at CRS, you will...

  • Work on and possibly manage/coordinate interesting projects
  • Enjoy working flexible hours that fit with your school schedule. Students generally work between 4 and 10 hours a week, with exceptions around exams, holidays and breaks, of course.
  • Network with CRS staff, other UVM students, and faculty members of Community Development and Applied Economics and Public Administration, among others!

All Work-Study students will be given an orientation to the office and staff and will be trained in specific project areas as needed. We welcome all majors and experience levels!

Position Descriptions

Staff Assistant

Level 2

 

Job Responsibilities :  General office administration including greeting visitors, answering phones, referring calls to staff, photocopying, faxing, and data entry

Requirements: Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheets a plus.

 

2 Positions Available 

Research Assistant

Level 3

 

Job Responsibilities :  Assist staff in research projects on Vermont community issues, such as education, agriculture, technology, small business, e-commerce, and public opinion surveys.  Tasks may include:  Administrative, data entry, conducting telephone interviews, basic data analysis, writing, and library research.

Requirements:  Interest in research methods, writing, and Vermont issues a plus.  Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheets preferred.

 

5 Positions Available

Communications Assistant

Level 3

 

Job Responsibilities :  Assist staff in developing CRS promotional materials, and writing/editing our quarterly newsletter, Rural Developments, articles, press releases, and reports. This position also includes administrative tasks such as answering the telephone and data entry. 

Requirements:  Writing, communication, editing, and word processing skills.

 

1 Position Available

Project Coordinator

Level 4

 

Job Responsibilities :  Assist staff in the coordination of research projects.  Responsibilities may include:  coordinating projects, office administration, supervising staff, data collection, interviewing, library research, writing, data entry, and basic data analysis. This position will give the student experience in coordinating large scale projects such as our annual Vermonter Poll and among other projects.

Requirements:  Ability to work independently; knowledge of research methods, strong organization and leadership skills. 

 

2 Positions Available 

Research and Technical Assistant

Level 3

 

Job Responsibilities :  Assist staff in installation of software, virus scanning, website maintenance and data managment. The student in this position may also assist staff with research projects and take on daily administrative duties, such as photocopying, faxing, answering the telephone, and data entry.

Requirements: Knowledge in computer troubleshooting a plus.

Web Site Assistant

Level 4

 

Job Responsibilities :  Assist staff in creating, maintaining and updating websites, uploading documents and reports, and developing on-line surveys.  Great opportunity for developing website skills.

Requirements:  Basic HTML and Adobe Acrobat.
