Living Things...Collaborative Online Resources
The Franklin Institute Science Museum maintains this site as both a forum for teachers and as a source for information on "living things". The page is divided into four main topic areas: Individuals (individual plants and animals); Families (groups of plants and animals with similar physical structure and behavior); Neighborhoods (families of living things interacting with each other; The Circle of Life (birth, growth, reproduction, and death as natural parts of the natural world). Each topic heading provides extensive information on the topics that educators can use for their own learning and that which they will pass on to students. Scattered throughout this information are hands-on activities related to the subject matter at hand. The activities are generalized with room for modification so teachers can make use of existing resources.
Included in the web page are several forums where both teachers and children can communicate ideas using the Internet. Students and teachers can read each other's comments, offer suggestions, and relay thoughts in the open-style of communication. Forums specific to the topic areas are also offered.
The Living Things Collaborative Online Resources was born out of a worldwide community of teachers and students who are investigating living things in their classrooms.
