Green & Growing: From the Ground Up...A Teachers' Guide Outline
This web site is an extensive, well-organized online teachers' guide for lessons and activities about food, agriculture, and sustainable development. The lesson plan is divided into five sections: The History of Agriculture and a Description of Sustainable Development; Soil; Agriculture and Chemicals; The Real Cost of Food; and Everything's Connected.
Educators and anyone else interested can download the materials, essays, lessons, and worksheets for use in their classrooms and elsewhere. A half-hour video produced by Green and Growing is also available. The intent of the video is open discussion on soil depletion and degradation, chemical solutions, health of the farm economy, and the way consumers influence agricultural practices. There is a French version available of both the teachers' guide and the video. The web site also includes a list of "Cool Stuff" and resources that could be very useful for science educators, organic farmers and consumers, and other interests.
