6. Business Location:

A. What is your business address and why did you choose that location?

B. Will the building be leased or owned?

- If leased, what are the terms and length of the lease contract? (SBA)

C. Describe the appearance of the building. (VEM, pg. 37)

- What renovations will be needed and at what cost?

D. Describe the neighborhood (e.g., stable, changing, improving, deteriorating).

E. What other kinds of businesses are in the neighborhood?

F. How much can your business expand before you will be forced to move or add onto the present building? (SBA)

Note: Location is an extremely important factor for any business. For most retail and many small service businesses, location can be critical to success. So, include pictures, maps, and an accurate diagram of your floor space (VEM, pg. 37). Attach economic and travel indicators when applicable. (MBDP)

7. Licenses and Permits:

A. Is your business name registered with the Secretary of State? (SBA)

Note: You register your business name with the Secretary of State in Montpelier. Call and request an application if necessary. The cost of registration is approximately $20. You also need to register with the town clerk in your town, cost = $6-$8. (MBDP)

B. State how local-zoning regulations will affect you.

C. What other licenses or permits will you be required to obtain? (SBA)

Note: Other licenses and permits depend on the individual business. Town and city zoning boards have different regulations, therefore, may require that a business owner have additional licenses and permits for certain things perhaps not required in other towns and cities. Each business is different and so are the requirements of licenses and permits. (MBDP)
